ABOUT THE ROLE: The Director, European Affairs, will represent the Motion Picture Association in diverse policy matters in the region comprising Europe, the Middle East and Africa, with a particular emphasis on EU affairs. The broad objectives of this work will be to support MPA members by promoting actions and policies that respect and sustain creativity and contribute to the success of the audiovisual sector. The successful candidate will bring strong policy expertise, a well-established network across EU institutions, and a collaborative mindset.

ROLE DESCRIPTION & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Advocacy: The Director, European Affairs will play a key role in advancing MPA’s advocacy at the EU-level, sharing responsibility for EU affairs work with other team members, ensuring a cohesive and aligned approach. This work will entail frequent, face-to-face interaction with representatives of the EU institutions and stakeholders in the Brussels policy community, with a particular focus on the European Parliament.

Policy Analysis:  In collaboration with the Senior Vice President, Head of Policy, contribute to the design and recommendation of strategies to accomplish MPA member policy objectives, in particular in EU public policy concerning media, audiovisual and cultural policy, copyright and internal market regulation.

Relationships & Coalitions: Working together with the rest of MPA EMEA Policy Team, the Director, European Affairs will represent the MPA as a partner in the broader EU and EMEA policy community, being active in coalitions and building and maintaining collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders.

Teamwork: Work collaboratively with MPA members, leadership and the rest of the MPA EMEA Policy Team as well as outside consultants. Participate actively in MPA member and Policy Team meetings. Maintain continuity of contact with members and colleagues by documenting actions, communicating developments, and highlighting issues, to support the broader work of the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

The successful candidate will bring strong policy expertise, a well-established network across EU institutions and a collaborative mindset. We are looking for candidates with a mix of the following qualifications, experience and skills:

  1. A collaborative mindset with a strong instinct to support colleagues and contribute to collective success.
  2. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and influence effectively.
  3. Experience working in the media and/or entertainment industries.
  4. Strong knowledge and understanding of media and copyright law and policy.
  5. An established network within EU institutions, particularly the European Parliament.
  6. Experience working in the European Parliament is a plus.
  7. An advanced degree in law, public policy, business, or related field(s).
  8. A minimum of 8 years experience in EU public affairs.

Based in Brussels. Frequent travel within the region.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS and COMPENSATION: This position reports directly to the Senior Vice President, Head of Policy, EMEA, who leads the MPA EMEA Policy team. Title and compensation dependent on qualifications and experience.
