If your content is stolen, who you gonna call? Spoiler alert: it’s not the Ghostbusters!

October 13, 2025

At this year’s MIA | Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo in Rome, the Motion Picture Association was pleased to join FAPAV – Federazione per la Tutela delle Industrie dei Contenuti Audiovisivi e Multimediali and ANICA for a panel discussion on the future of content protection and copyright enforcement.

Sunniva Hansson, Vice President and Head of Policy at MPA EMEA, took part in the discussion, exploring Agcom’s updated Online Copyright Regulation and the Piracy Shield platform – an innovative system that enables the rapid blocking of illegal content and sets a new standard for effective copyright enforcement in Europe. With its recent extension to include films and other audiovisual works, the platform now ensures that creative content can be protected not only during live broadcasts but also in the crucial window following release. This marks a decisive step that reinforces Italy’s position as a leader in the fight against online piracy.

When combined with the international work of the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment, these efforts show how coordinated national and global action can strengthen enforcement and safeguard creativity across borders.

Exchanges with representatives from the judiciary, law enforcement, the Polizia Postale, and industry stakeholders underscored our shared commitment to tackling piracy and supporting those who bring our favourite stories to life.

A big thank you to FAPAV – Federico Bagnoli Rossi, ANICA – Alessandro Usai, and AGCOM – Massimiliano Capitanio for facilitating such a meaningful dialogue – and for their continued commitment to protecting creativity from the “ghosts” of piracy.
