ROLE TITLE: MPA UK Representative/Government Affairs Lead
DEPARTMENT: MPA Europe, Middle East, and Africa
LOCATION: London, UK
ROLE DESCRIPTION & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Represent members’ agreed policy interests in the UK with government, administration, political parties, parliament, regulators and other relevant institutions and agencies. Provide a ready conduit for the UK government to communicate with MPA and its members when needed.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders from across the sector and wider industry. Further develop the network of groups, coalitions, partnerships and initiatives through which MPA members are represented in the UK. Set up, participate in, speak at and report on industry sectoral events and meetings.
- Propose and seek member consensus around identified policy advocacy objectives, as well as strategies and specific actions to achieve those objectives.
- Develop policy documents, positions and consultation responses in consultation with MPA members and colleagues.
- Provide expert guidance on a broad range of policy issues relevant to the AV sector.
- Monitor legislative and policy developments, emerging challenges and analyse regulatory trends. Report on these developments, including through weekly written and oral updates to MPA members and colleagues.
- Implement the approved strategies and actions, including through stakeholder dialogues, government consultations, industry roundtables, government meetings, industry meetings, public engagements, and other relevant activities.
- Plan and organise joint policy meetings for members and visits of MPA leadership as relevant.
- Advise on UK political communications strategy, including participation in regular UK and Brussels representative conference calls and annual planning sessions.
- Assist the MPA EMEA communications team in identifying opportunities and maintaining contact and liaison with media outlets on agreed relevant issues.
- Represent the collective content protection interests of the MPA members as instructed and agreed with local members representatives and MPA content protection leadership.
- Participate in MPA internal member group meetings as required, in the UK and overseas.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- The MPA is looking for an accomplished and dynamic government affairs professional with over 15 years of experience, preferably with a background in the audiovisual, other creative or adjacent sectors.
- Broad understanding of diverse policy issues relevant to the audiovisual sector, including but not limited to copyright, media law, AI and digital regulation, and be able to navigate the complexities of this dynamic landscape.
- This key role requires a well-connected and politically savvy individual with extensive experience engaging with UK government bodies and broader industry stakeholders.
- Excellent writing, presentation, strategic and analytical skills.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and organisational skills, with the ability to lead multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.
- Proven ability to be creative and flexible, as well as an effective listener, communicator, and conciliator. A sense of humor, adaptability, integrity and a collaborative mindset are essential.
- The successful candidate will ideally hold an advanced degree in public policy, law, or other related field.
