MPA Statement on UK Government Report and Impact Assessment on AI and Copyright

March 19, 2026

BRUSSELS – On the 18th of March, the UK government issued a statement and published its report and impact assessment on AI and copyright, confirming that it no longer has a preferred option on how to address the issue of AI and copyright.

The following is a statement from the MPA:

“We welcome the UK Government’s decision not to introduce a new exception to copyright for commercial AI training. Copyright and exclusive rights are the bedrock of the creative industries. A strong and effective copyright framework is essential for the health of our sectors and for our ability to entertain and inform audiences. We look forward to continuing to work with the UK Government, alongside other members of the creative sectors, to identify how best to embrace the opportunities and address the challenges presented by AI for our sectors.”
